Advantages of Ductile Iron Pipe

Ductile iron(DI) pipe has been the choice for modern water and wastewater systems. It has excelled in strength, durability, and reliability for transporting raw and potable water, sewage, slurries, and process chemicals.

Designed and manufactured to the industry's most stringent standards, Ductile iron pipe resists damage during shipping and handling, and once installed, it withstands the most demanding operating conditions, including water hammer, frozen ground, deep trenches, high water table areas, heavy traffic areas, river crossings, pipe on supports, rocky ditches, and shifting, expansive, and unstable soils.

Applications of of Ductile Iron Pipe

1. Water Supply Systems

Municipal Water Distribution: Used for transporting potable water due to its leak-resistant joints and long lifespan.

Transmission Mains: High-pressure pipelines for bulk water transfer.

Water Treatment Plants: Used in raw water intake and treated water distribution.

2. Sewer and Wastewater Systems

Gravity Sewers: Resists ground movement and heavy loads.

Force Mains: Handles pressurized sewage flow.

Stormwater Drainage: Durable in harsh environmental conditions.

3. Industrial Applications

Mining: Transport slurry, process water, and tailings.
Power Plants: Used for cooling water and ash handling systems.
Chemical Processing: Resists certain corrosive fluids when lined.

4. Irrigation Systems

Agricultural Water Supply: Handles high-pressure irrigation networks.

Drainage Systems: Used in large-scale farmland drainage.

5. Oil & Gas Sector

Pipeline Casings: Protects oil/gas pipelines from external damage.

Water Injection Lines: Used in secondary oil recovery.

6. Fire Protection Systems

Underground Fire Lines: Reliable for fire hydrant networks due to high burst strength.

7. Infrastructure & Construction

Piling & Foundation Work: Used as micropiles in soft soil conditions.

Tunneling & Microtunneling: Acts as casing pipes.

8. Marine & Coastal Applications

Sea Outfall Pipes: Used for discharging treated wastewater into the sea (with proper coatings).

Characteristics of of Ductile Iron Pipe

Different type of DI pipe has its own characteristics, for example: Self-anchored ductile iron pipe is a kind of high-performance water conveyance material, which is widely used in water conservancy projects. Compared with other pipes, the self-anchored interface uses the thrust transfer between the self-anchored component and the socket welding ring to achieve reliable anti-slip ability, and the radial sliding of the self-anchored component makes the interface have better deflection performance; The pipeline is lined with cement, which can effectively prevent the pipeline from being corroded by the conveying medium. Self-anchored ductile iron pipes can be divided into two categories: internal self-anchored pipes and external self-anchored pipes. Advantages of self-anchored pipe products: good sealing, excellent flexibility, effective anti-detachment performance, repeatable disassembly, reasonable flexibility, convenient construction, and prevention of chemical and electrochemical corrosion.
